YARDVILLE, NJ, February 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Triple 5 Industries announces recommendations to increase safety at power plants. Due to recent catastrophic events related to dead air space leaks, safety has become an industry wide priority. As part of their Dead Air Space Safety Initiative, Triple 5 recommends placing sensors in the dead air spaces to reduce the risk and consequences from such events. These sensors provide early warning of boiler tube leaks allowing the plant to safely deal with the situation. "Safety is our main concern, particularly in view of recent tragic events." said Megan Humphrey, Triple 5's General Manager.
Dead air spaces are boiler pressure part enclosures not designed to contain or withstand the release of energy from a significant tube leak or rupture. These spaces can be in locations of high foot traffic and pose risk to plant personnel. In order to properly monitor these areas of the boiler Triple 5 recommends:
• Review the coverage of the existing leak detection / acoustic monitoring systems. Based on the size and configuration of the enclosed space, two to six sensors per dead air space are needed to insure proper coverage.
• If needed, install additional sensors in locations designed to maximize coverage of the unit's dead air spaces
• Train operators to react to changes in the unit
• Test and maintain sensors on a regular basis.
In conjunction with placing sensors in the dead air space Triple 5 will be introducing a sound source unit which will test the sensors for reliability on a daily basis.
Triple 5 offers technical support through Surveillance, a remote monitoring service that analyzes the data for acoustic changes and hardware problems. Triple 5 also offers the Virtual AMS (VAMS) a software package designed for plant personnel to remotely monitor a unit from any internet connection.
