BOEBLINGEN, GERMANY, August 02, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The coal stock "La Medusa" has a capacity of 100.000 tons of coal. After a unforeseen fire incident in November 2007 the operator took wide measures to improve the safety situation significantly. The safety measures included - among other - several different fire detection systems like smoke and gas detectors for NOx, SO2, CO and infrared cameras monitoring the upper surface of the accumulated coal but the most critical area is close to the enclosures annulus. Due to the insufficient ventilation, advanced pressure and friction the occurrence of smoldering fires is here rather likely. An infrared camera fails to detect hot spots within the bulk. Therefore the engineers decided to use the AP Sensing "Linear Heat Series" to protect the annulus space of "La Medusa".
