Long Island Landscaping Company, Longo's Landscaping & Masonry offers Valuable Fall Landscaping Tips to Homeowners
Landscaping experts on Long Island, Longo's Landscaping, is offering their Landscaping clients' valuable tips on how to maintain a healthy lawn during the fall season.

ST. JAMES, NY, November 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Longo's Landscaping & Masonry of Long Island, New York suggests cleaning out any dead plants during the fall season. However, if a client's plan is to maintain some kind of vegetation within a garden during the winter season, dead plants should be destroyed. This will break down during the winter and provide compost for the garden. When next spring arrives, clients are instructed to turn the soil over and it will go away.

All weeds should be pulled up during the fall including any rotten vegetables or insect damaged foliage. People should also make sure all pots are thoroughly washed out and stored away for next spring.

"It is important to water your trees and garden before the ground begins to freeze. Trees especially need extra water for strength to endure the cold winter season," according to Longo's Landscaping.

He also suggests that people rake their leaves because this helps in maintaining a healthy yard. It not only prevents grass from dying, it also improves air circulation. Leaves can be used as mulch for the garden.

Another important tip is to fertilize and water your lawn. This helps a lawn to face the cold winter season while maintaining it for the spring season. Longo's Landscaping also suggests planting garlic and spring bulbs during fall.

"This gives you a colorful display of daffodils and crocus's after the winter season," Longo's Landscaping tells his clients. "When you plant garlic during the fall season, you can expect to harvest it next summer".

Yard aficionado's who have geraniums are advised to trim them approximately 4 inches and store them in a location that's cool and dark. Use sulfur to remove dirt from the roots. Make sure they are re-potted and placed on a sunny window sill in February.

Many people stop mowing their yard in August. To keep a yard healthy throughout the cold months, a lawn should be mowed approximately 2 ½ inches long up until winter. This prevents snow mold from forming which can damage a lawn.

Garden tools and shovels should be thoroughly washed off. Any kind of repairs should be made prior to spring. Longo's Landscaping suggests using a wire brush to clean metal surfaces. The cutting edges should be sharpened and use oil to avoid rusting.
