Andrei G. Filotti, PhD Joins the Ranks of Leading Professionals
Dr. Andrei G. Filotti celebrates a 52-year career in water and environmental engineering.
ARLINGTON, VA, March 1, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andrei G. Filotti, retired Technical Advisor of the United Nations has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating leadership and excellence in engineering.
With 52 years of experience in his field, Dr. Filotti is an expert in water and environmental engineering. He started his career serving as water engineer and chief engineer for the Research and Design Institute for Water Management (now Aquaproiect) of Bucharest, Romania, from 1952 to 1982 being in charge of planning the country's water resources development. He was also a professor of water management and river training at the Faculty of Reclamation and Environmental Engineering of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest from 1973 to 1978 and served on the editorial board of the "Hidrotehnica" technical magazine.
He came to the United States in 1982, joining the United Nations Department of Technical Cooperation for Development (now Division of Sustainable Development) as Technical Advisor, coordinating water development projects in South East Asia, the Middle East and Africa. After retiring in 1994, Dr. Filotti continued to work as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program, for the Asian Development Bank and for United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and was appointed Director of Operations of SWIPCO, where he was involved in monitoring procurement operations by various governments. Dr. Filotti's experience covers India, Bangladesh, Laos, Syria, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Romania, Chad, Senegal, Uganda, Congo, Chad, Nigeria, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar and other countries.
Dr. Filotti received his master's degree in hydro-electrical engineering from the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Romania (1952) and his Ph.D. in water management and computer modelling from the same university (1972). He has published 7 books and university courses as well as over 100 articles on topics related to water and environmental management. He is affiliated with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the Association of Former International Civil Servants (AFICS).
He attributes his success to his passion for his profession, hard work and being a lifelong learner. He hopes to continue sharing his knowledge with new generations, especially in developing countries.
Dr. Filotti is married for 56 years.
