Qatar Building Company (QBC) Receives Three Nominations for Construction Week's Qatar Awards 2011
Qatar Building Company receives 3 nominations in Construction Week's 2011 Qatar Awards. Of 17 categories, QBC has two nominees for "Project Manager of the Year" & one "Infrastructure Project of the Year" nominee.

DOHA, QATAR, September 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Qatar Building Company (QBC) is nominated for three (3) awards in the first-ever Construction Week Awards - Qatar. The awards ceremony, to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel on Monday, September 26 at 7:30pm, seeks to recognize and reward excellence in the construction industry. Of the seventeen (17) categories available, QBC received one (1) nomination for its Infrastructure Project of the Year, and two (2) individual nominations for Project Manager of the Year.

Mr. Ali Mustafawi, Managing Director of QBC, comments "we are thrilled to receive three nominations for Construction Weekly's Qatar Awards. We know that this is a testament to our commitment for excellence in all that we do. I am proud of our individual project managers and of our team of engineers. We wish all the nominees the best of luck."

The Infrastructure Project of the Year nomination recognized QBC's bid to "design & build micro-tunneling, pipework, and associated works between Pearl & Golf Roundabout," which required tunneling works to be done at great depths directly under the open water of an existing canal—without closing the canal or pumping out its water. QBC (main contractor) worked intimately with Gulf Tunneling (sub-contractor) to ensure that modern technology coupled with sophisticated engineering minimized negative environmental impact, saved time and resources, and did not disrupt traffic flows.

The two (2) nominated for Project Manager of the Year were Mr. Hazem Gazarin and Mr. Firas Al Ali. The first—a dedicated project manager with Qatar Building Company for over 10 years—demonstrated exceptional project managing skills over the past year, simultaneously managing three (3) projects across Doha. Each of these projects were successfully completed on or before schedule, with zero (0) lost-time incidents. His ability to select and recruit the most qualified team members, secure the supply chain, and synthesize innovative engineering techniques were some of the details highlighted in his nomination.

Mr. Firas Al Ali, Project Manager at Qatar Building Company for only one year, has overseen more than one (1) million man-hours without loss-time incidents (LTIs), and was directly involved in completing one phase of his project sixty-five (65) days ahead of schedule, saving 9,745,635 QR. Mr. Al Ali has also managed to attend a series of training courses over the past year, focusing on topics that include valuations, estimations, communications skills, and project management.

Construction Weekly has held an annual Construction Week Awards in Dubai since 2005. Mr. Khaled al Taweel, Assistant Managing Director for Technical Affairs at QBC said: "Construction Weekly is one of the most established sources in the Middle East's construction industry. What an honor for QBC!"

According to Construction Weekly, "entries will be judged by a large jury of industry peers". For more information regarding the prestigious Construction Weekly Awards, visit: http://www.constructionweekonline.com/cwawardsqatar/.
